The Hart 20V brushless reciprocating saw offers the benefits of a brushless motor to kick it to a higher level of performance than the brushed version. We used it to make a variety of cuts and decide if it’s a tool you should consider for your next project.

We had some fun out in our shop while getting a feel for Hart’s brushless reciprocating saw. With a 1 1/4-inch stroke length at 3200 strokes per minute, it actually tops most professional models in no-load speed. It’s something that really showed cutting through clean wood and thinner metals.

Where it starts to slow down is in on tougher demo cuts, like our roofing sandwich. The saw is still perfectly capable of making the cut, it’s just not going to muscle through it the way something like the Milwaukee M18 Fuel Super Sawzall can. The trick is to let the blade and the motor do the work by balancing how much you push into the cut and letting the stroke rate remain high.

Considering this saw’s performance lets you work more effectively in tougher cutting scenarios, you may want to invest in longer-lasting blades. We recommend Lenox carbide-tipped reciprocating saw blades for those jobs.

Orbital action isn’t a feature we expect to find at this level and it’s no surprise Hart doesn’t include it.

Hart’s 20V reciprocating saw is on the lightweight side with a very manageable 5.5-pound bare weight and bumps up to 6.9 pounds with a 4.0Ah battery. The profile matches that of most full-sized reciprocating saws, measuring just under 18 inches long.

Brushless motors offer better runtime, performance, and life over brushed motors. You can expect to pay more, but we recommend going brushless if it fits your budget.

With such high speed on the top end, there are going to be times when you need to control the speed of the Hart brushless reciprocating saw to get the best cutting. While there’s no dial to adjust the speed, there is a variable speed trigger you can use to feather the speed for better starts and control.

Blade changes are super-easy thanks to a quick-release on the side of the front grip. Instead of having to twist a release on the shaft, just pull that lever up to release your blade and insert a new one.

One of the best ways to keep vibration to a minimum while you cut is by pressing the shoe securely against the material you’re cutting. Hart’s pivoting shoe helps you maintain contact while you’re making long cuts or working with round materials.

This Hart 20V brushless reciprocating saw runs $128.00 as a bare tool and works with all Hart 20V batteries. It’s not yet available as a kit or any combos at the moment.

Hart offers a 3-year limited lifetime warranty on their 20V lineup as well as a 90-day defect return policy.

Hart is continually proving itself as a competitive player in the DIY world and their brushless reciprocating saw exceeds our expectations for what a saw should be capable of in this class. There are clearly some differences between what you get from the HPRS25 and what a more expensive reciprocating saw offers, but that’s exactly the point—you don’t have to spend more to get the job done well.
