Attach a Cordless Drill to Your Pepper Grinder for Super-Powered Pepper Production

If you're hitting the grill this weekend or you just have a recipe that calls for a lot of freshly ground black pepper, you could sit with a pepper grinder and grind it yourself for minutes on end, or you can take a page from the video above, pop the top off of your grinder, attach a cordless drill, and get the job done in a fraction of the time. Overkill? Probably. Effective? Definitely.

The video above is from the folks at America's Test Kitchen, but to be fair the first time I saw the idea was watching this episode of Good Eats , where Alton Brown bolts on a long pepper grinder to his cordless drill to get the same effect (to see it in action, fast-forward the video to about 11:13 .) This method borrows the idea, but returns your pepper grinder to you when you're finished your powered pepper pulverization so you don't have a cordless drill on your kitchen countertop.

You'll definitely need a cordless drill with an adjustable bit holder to do this, since grinder sizes vary widely, but it shouldn't take much effort to accomplish. Just attach the cordless drill, turn it on its lowest setting, hold the grinder with one hand, and squeeze the trigger with the other. Yes, it's entirely overkill for a dash of pepper over the stove or at the dinner table, but for large applications like a grill full of steaks or a large pot of soup or stew, you'll have all the pepper you need.

Ready to give this a shot? Too ridiculous for your taste? Whatever you think, sound off in the comments below.
