Professional Tool Reviews for Pros

We know that a good socket set is indispensable in the workshop or home garage. So, we took a look at the various socket sets and mechanic’s tools that Hart has available for your wrench-swinging needs. The lineup is actually a lot more robust than you might think. Plus, with all of these hand tools available from your local Walmart, they’re easy to get a hold of.

The Hart Multiple Drive 215-Piece Mechanic’s Tool Set has just about everything you’ll need for any job in the garage or shop. The traditional chrome finish gives you some rust resistance, and the pieces feature large size markings.

The set includes 13 tools and adaptors, standard and deep well 1/4″ drive 6-point sockets, standard and deep well 3/8″ drive 6-point sockets, 1/2″ 12-point sockets, and a screwdriver. It also includes a variety of star bits and hex bit sockets.

This Hart 215-Piece Mechanic’s Tool Set set comes in a durable case with metal latches and barrel hinges. It retails for an astoundingly-low $98.

Moving down to something simpler, we have the Hart 3-Piece Socket Adapters. These come in three sizes: 1/4″, 3/8″, and 1/2″ and turn your drill or impact driver into a socket-driver. Each adapter in the set carries an impact rating to tackle high-torque applications.

You can pick up this 3-piece set for under $5. It carries Hart’s limited lifetime warranty.

The Hart 11-piece 1/2″ Drive Deep Impact Socket Set makes a great addition to your toolbox with a reach that easily gets into tight spaces in your car’s engine bay. Hart has constructed this set from impact-rated Chrome Vanadium Steel for better durability in high-torque applications. We don’t shatter a lot of regular sockets, but it’s good practice to use impact-rated whenever you plan to mate them with an impact wrench.

This Metric set includes the following 1/2-inch drive sockets: 13mm, 14mm, 15mm, 16mm, 17mm, 18mm, 19mm, 20mm, 21mm, 22mm & 24mm.

You can pick up this Hart Socket Set from your local Walmart or online for $37.64. It comes with a limited lifetime warranty.

If the last set sounded good, but you’d also like the SAE sizings, Hart has you covered. The 11-piece 1/2″ Drive SAE Impact Socket Set carries the same feature set as the HHMTB002 sockets, but with SAE sizing.

This Hart Socket Set includes 1/2″ drive deep sockets in 7/16″, 1/2″, 9/16″, 5/8″, 11/16″, 3/4″, 13/16″, 7/8″, 15/16″, 1″, and 1-1/16″ sizes. You can pick it up for $37.64, and it comes with Hart’s limited lifetime warranty. This has to be one of the lowest price points we’ve seen aside from Harbor Freight for an impact-rated socket set of this size.

The Hart 16-piece 3/8″ Drive Pass-Through Socket Set makes a great addition to anyone’s tool box. The pass-through socket design provides access to long bolts that even deep well sockets can’t manage.

This set features 3/8″, 7/16″, 1/2″, 9/16″, 5/8″, 11/16″, and 3/4″ SAE sockets. For Metric sizing, it also includes 10 mm, 11 mm, 12 mm, 13 mm, 14 mm, 15 mm, 16 mm, and 17 mm sockets.

These sockets feature a chrome finish for corrosion resistance and are covered by Hart’s limited lifetime warranty. You can pick up the set for $21.97.

Next up is a staple—suitable for anyone. It also makes a great stocking stuffer for that beginner mechanic in your life. The 18-Piece 3/8″ Drive Deep Socket Set comes with a 90-tooth ratchet, which features 20% better efficiency, providing better turning power in tighter spots than your standard 72-tooth ratchet. The deep socket design of this Hart Socket Set gets you better access onto those deep-lying fasteners.

Your 1/4-inch sockets provide a great solution for tackling 9/16″ and lower bolt and nut sizes. This Hart Socket Set also features that 90-tooth Hart ratcheting technology. It lets you continue tightening and loosening even when you don’t have much room to swing back and forth. Realistically, it wouldn’t hurt to have both this set and a 3/8″ set for larger work.

This set comes with both SAE and Metric full-chrome sockets. They all feature large markings for better visibility. They feature Hart’s Limited Lifetime warranty, and you can pick the set up for $19.97.

Even the big boys need smaller ratchets—but 1/2-inch is where the rubber meets the road for most auto mechanics. This compact Hart Socket Set, apart from being useful in the garage, also makes for a solid option as an emergency kit in your car or truck. It features a 90-tooth, 1/2″ drive ratchet along with a healthy mix of both SAE and Metric 12-point sockets.

This set comes with a case to keep everything together and organized. Everything inside has a chrome finish to resist rust and corrosion.

You can pick up the HHMTS303 set for just $34.88. It also includes the Hart Limited Lifetime warranty.

This Hart Socket Set comes with 140-pieces to help you start or flesh out your mechanic’s set in the garage. It includes three 90-tooth ratchets that feature a quick release button and reverse lever. Plus, with the assortment of bits, extensions, adaptors, and sockets, you can get most jobs finished with minimal effort.

You can almost “steal” this set for $74 at Walmart. All of the ratchets and sockets feature a full chrome finish for rust resistance and come with the same great warranty.

Just in case 140-pieces wasn’t enough, Hart has another option waiting. For even more versatility in the garage, this Hart Socket Set adds another 40 pieces to the mix. You get a nice mix of 1/4, 3/8, and 1/2-inch sockets plus a whole lot more.

The tools and sockets in the Multiple Drive 180-Piece Mechanic’s Tool Set feature a full chrome finish. It features 3 different 90-tooth ratchets, along with a slew of bits, sockets, extensions, adapters, and hex keys.

You can pick up the HHMTS403 set for $97. It comes with a limited lifetime warranty, as well as a blow-molded case with metal latches and barrel hinges.

Rotating 360º, these universal joints (or knuckles, as we tend to call them) give you better access to fasteners around protrusions and obstructions. Hart wisely constructed the joints from Chrome Vanadium Steel for maximum strength and durability when using them with your impact tools.

The 3-Piece Impact Universal Joint Set includes a 1/4″ drive universal joint, 1/2″ drive universal joint, and 3/8″ universal joint.

This set retails for $8.44 and comes with—you guessed it—a limited lifetime warranty.

Hart has yet another mechanics toolset. This one makes a nice gift or could serve as a great start to your collection. The 26-Piece 3/8″ Mechanic’s Tool Set comes with a 90-tooth ratchet, 25 various SAE and Metric sockets, and a case. The fact that Hart went with their 90-tooth ratchet here speaks volumes as to their intent. They want to get you into something serious—and let you build out the set over time. These aren’t throwaway tools. Rather, they just give you the basics in a variety of common sizes.

All of the pieces feature a full chrome finish and the sockets have large markings for easy identification.

You can pick up this Hart Socket Set for $26.99. It comes with a handy case that holds both the ratchet and sockets.

To expand on the last set, Hart has another larger set available. This one includes both 1/4″ and 3/8″ 90-tooth drive ratchets. In addition to the two ratchets, this set includes a 1/4″ nut driver and both SAE and Metric sockets.

You can pick up the 90-Piece Hart Socket Set for $44.88.

Designed for use with your impact tools, these 3/8″ drive extension bars give you better access to hard-to-reach fasteners when working in tight spaces.

The set includes a 3″ bar, 6″ bar, and 8″ bar. Hart has constructed all of them from impact-rated Chrome Vanadium Steel for better durability and shatter-resistance for high-torque applications.

You can pick up the HHMTB006 Extension Bar Set for $10.88. Like all of the Hart Socket Sets on the page, this set comes with a limited lifetime warranty.

The Hart 3/8″ Drive Extendable Ratchet has the same 90-tooth design that seems to come standard in all of the Hart Socket Sets, but with a couple of added bonuses.

For one thing, it features a handle that extends from 9″ to 13″ for a more customizable approach to fastening. It’s like a cheater bar for your ratchet. Secondly, the HHMTS103 features a flexible locking head that lets you work around obstacles more easily. It has a rust-resistant chrome plate finish and a comfort grip.

You can pick up the Hart Extendable Ratchet for $22.88 from Walmart.com.

For a basic set of deep well sockets, Hart has the HHMTS305. It includes a 90-tooth 1/4″ drive ratchet, giving you the ability to access deep set fasteners easily. It includes both SAE and Metric sockets, and with its blow molded case, makes a great beginner’s set or emergency kit for your car or truck.

Hart also has a set of extension bars available for your 1/2″ drives. The set includes a 3″ bar, 6″ bar, and 8″ bar, all of which are impact rated to stand up to your toughest tasks.

The HHMTS104 ratchet is pretty much a carbon copy of the 3/8″ drive model ratchet, except that it features a 1/2″ drive. It still has the flexible locking head for easier work around obstacles. However, it is a bit bigger, and by virtue of that, extends out farther. You can extend the handle from 12.5″ to 17″.

You can grip just about any fastener with the Hart Universal Socket Set. Not only does it include the standard 90-tooth ratchet that we’ve come to know and love, but it also includes a universal socket that fits 1/4″ to 3/4″ fasteners and 7mm to 19mm fasteners.

The set also includes a 3/8″ drill and driver adaptor so that you can chuck it up for motorized operation. We’re not too keen on using this with a power tool, but at slow speed, you may be able to speed up your work on fasteners that tend to move freely.

You can pick up the ratchet, universal socket, and adaptor for $18.88.
