Your journey in the world of Temtem will be challenging but do not worry, we got you covered! We prepared a list of the best Temtem to help you out. Please be aware that this list is focused on the Temtem story campaign and depending on the activity you do the effectiveness of those Temtem may vary! For a list of all Temtem you can find in the Airborne Archipelago visit our List of All Temtem page!

This list is sorted by Temtem availability in the main story. Click the Temtem to learn more, like where to find them and which techniques to teach them!

Scaravolt is an Electric/Fire type Temtem and its pre-evolution Scarawatt is already available on the first island in Windward Fort! Scaravolt has very good defensive stats and the "Good Friend" trait can redirect attacks onto itself îf your ally is attacked twice in the same turn. It also learns the strong Thunder Strike technique already at level 30. Due to the early location of TC009: Magma Cannon, it has a respectable technique for both its types very early in the game. Be wary of Earth techniques though as they deal four times the damage to Scaravolt!

Ukama, also known as "sea-sickle," is a very fast and offensive-focused Water-type Temtem. It evolves from Umishi, a Water-type Temtem found in the Sillaro River after obtaining the Surfboard. They hit hard thanks to the Hydrologist trait which increases damage dealt with Water techniques by 15%. Ukama learns one of the strongest Water techniques, Sharp Rain, at level 17 as well. This is also accompanied by the strong and fast Aquatic Whirlwind technique, learned at level 37. It also learns the Wind-type move Blizzard, which, due to Ukama's high speed, is a great counter against usually slower Toxic-type Temtem. Ukama can also deal with multiple opponents early thanks to TC001:Tsunami! Be wary that Ukama wants to strike first and will get knocked out quickly if not careful since its defensive stats are not very good.

Mastione, the powerful landshark, is a Fire/Water-type Temtem. It evolves from Magmis which can be found inside Anak Volcano. It has mostly decent stats but it shines with a base attack stat of 91, one of the highest base attack stats among all Temtem. Though the Water-type techniques it has would use its weaker special attack stat, its trait Solidifier solves this. Solidifier will make use of the stronger physical stat instead if a special Water-type technique is used! Similar to Ukama it has access to Sharp Rain and Tsunami relatively soon. However, it also learns notable Fire techniques. Meteor Swarm, learned at level 37, will allow you to use two techniques that hit both opponents and for both its types as well! Later, it also learns strong single-target attacks like Flaming Meteor and Lava Wave. Make sure to learn the type interactions of Mastione carefully as Fire/Water is a special combination that will change the usual type matchups a lot. Mastione has no weakness to Water and Earth despite being a Fire-type Temtem. The same applies to the Nature type despite being a Water-type Temtem. It still has two weaknesses which are Electric and Toxic, so be careful!

Kinu is a supportive Temtem and has the Mental and Nature types. It can be found in the Giant Banyan in Citerior Omninesia. You might need some time to find one as they are quite rare. Its Protector trait will give its ally an instant boost of +25% DEF and SPDEF which is very useful both to help frail Temtem or to give defensive Temtem even more protection. It also has further support options like Revitalize, and later on, Sacrifice. Despite its supportive nature, the offensive capabilities of Kinu cannot be underestimated. It learns the powerful Mental-type technique Beta Burst and later on, at level 74, the powerful Nature-type technique Resin Trap. You need to be careful with Kinu as it has four weaknesses but if used well it is overall a very strong Temtem.

Mushook is one of the most well-rounded Temtem available. It has good offensive stats and is fast. You should evolve a Mushi caught in Corrupted Badlands in order to get a Mushook quickly. Mushook also has good physical defenses thanks to its Parrier trait which decreases physical damage taken by 20%. It has access to powerful melee techniques like Perfect Jab and Uppercut. At level 59 it also learns its first strong Toxic-type technique, Wastewater. If you have another Toxic-type Temtem in your squad, Urushiol can also be an option against strong opponents. Mushook's main weakness is its special defense stat. Be wary of strong special techniques especially Wind and Mental-type techniques!

Gyalis is a Crystal/Melee-type Temtem and one of the fastest Temtem available which also packs a punch! It can be found in the southwestern area of the Mines of Mictlan. Overall, Gyalis is a Temtem with an incredible stat distribution which is by far its biggest strength. The Resistant trait will help against negative status conditions like Asleep and Poisoned. One of its few weak points is a relatively small range of techniques without hold. Drill Impact costs too much stamina, and without STAB (same type attack bonus), it is inefficient on Gyalis. So we recommend using Double Gash as its main technique without hold and in the turn after you can finish your enemies off with the strong Crystal Bite and Hook Kick techniques learned at level 41 and 58 respectively.

This little and smart Earth/Nature-type Temtem is mostly found in Tasa Desert. However, if you want a Vulffy as soon as possible you can catch one in the last section of Jino Gap just south of Nuru Lodge. A small grass patch can be found along the mountain path where Vulffy is obtainable in the wild. Vulffy's stats don't seem very strong at first but it only has a single weakness which is the Melee type! Aside from that, it has the exclusive and very strong Team Elusive trait. This allows Vulffy to completely avoid techniques that would hit both of your Temtem at the same time. It has access to Plague which is a fast and strong Nature technique. Plague also exhausts your opponent so it will lose stamina more quickly. At level 46 and 58 it also learns strong Earth-type options to take out single targets or both opponents at the same time! Bush is also a useful technique to evade techniques and restore some HP. Due to the general high stamina cost of Vulffy's techniques, we recommend equipping a gear that helps to save some stamina like Sweatband, Fake Beard or Matcha!

Yowlar is a Neutral-type Temtem found in Barafu Glacier which is accessible through taking the cablecar in Nuru Lodge and progressing through Kilima Peaks. Except for Yowlar's low speed and its weakness to Mental-type, this Temtem hardly has any disadvantages. You could even say that being slow is an advantage as well in this situation as Yowlar's Comebacker trait increases its damage dealt by 35% if it attacks a Temtem after the target has inflicted damage to Yowlar during the same turn. So you want to deal as much damage as possible using Clinch and Savage Suplex. Be aware that Oshi-Dashi does less damage than Savage Suplex despite having a higher power. This is because Yowlar does not have the Melee-type, so Oshi-Dashi does not get a same-type attack bonus. Oshi-Dashi can still be a great option to hurt Earth or Crystal-type Temtem with an effective hit, though.

Hedgine is a Fire/Digital-type Temtem. It evolves from Hoglip which is found in the Pillars of Highabove. It specializes in high speed and special attack but the focus for this Temtem is definitely on its speed. Thanks to the Gotta Go Fast trait, every technique used will at least be executed with high priority. This means that all techniques use 50% more speed than techniques with normal priorities. So Hedgine will usually go first compared to the other Temtem on the field. It has access to good Digital-type techniques like Binary Flood and TC:031: Harmful Microwaves. Regarding Fire-type techniques, Hedgine has access to Fire Tornado. TC006: Magma Cannon is also an option. Keep in mind that the low priority of Magma Cannon will be set to high thanks to its trait. This allows for a fast technique that burns your opponent for three turns! Be wary of Hedgine's many weaknesses, especially its double Water-type weakness.

Gharunder is located on the island of Arbury below Properton. It has excellent defensive stats, especially on the special side. However, it even has an option to boost its physical defense greatly as well. Resting will activate its trait, Brumation, which increases Gharunder's physical defense by 50% and reduces the hold of all techniques by one! This is important for its strong Piezoelectric Blow technique, which has a hold of two. Your main offensive technique will be TC007: Noxious Bomb. It also has access to TC033: Purgation to boost its attack stat by 50%. Thanks to Gharunder's Electric-type, you don't have to fear Wind techniques as much as with other Toxic-type Temtem. Beware of its two weaknesses: Earth and Crystal.

This covers all the best Temtem for the story campaign. Don't forget to check out our Combat and Type interaction sections to secure your victory in the Airborne Archipelago!
