Because pushing with your feet is for chumps who can't build things.

Skateboarding, longboarding in particular, can be a great way to get around. Even the biggest board is smaller than a bike, and it's just a blast to surf down the street. Of course, if you don't want to get all sweaty propelling yourself, it's going to cost you a pretty penny. Powered decks like the Boosted Board cost upwards of a grand. Or you could just build a drill-powered one.

The idea of using a drill to power a skateboard isn't new. There was the KRANK PowerStik, for instance, which unfortunately whiffed on its attempt to raise money on Kickstarter. Luckily, you can just build one of these rigs yourself. It's surprising simple, as Inspire to Make illustrates:

Basically, the modification just requires bolting a big metal disk into the very innards of one of the front wheels. Once that's done, you just have to attach that disk to your drill with a right-angle drill attachment and flexible extension bit holder so you can swing your drill around a little bit while you're riding. The rest is pretty explanatory: Drill turns wheel, wheel makes you go.

The whole project should cost under $100 assuming you already have a drill and a skateboard, but no more than $300 or so if you're starting from scratch and you pick a cheap-ish board. It looks like a fun project and and pretty cheap compared to less DIY electric vehicles. And you can bet it will turn some heads.
